Purpose

Purpose is a 2.5-metre figurative sculpture currently being created by Hamish and Brenda Herd for a private client in Texas. Rooted in classical sculpting traditions, the piece explores strength, intention, and quiet resolve through carefully observed anatomy, balance, and gesture.

Beginning with a hand-built steel armature, the sculpture is modelled in clay using traditional figurative techniques before progressing through contemporary fabrication methods into its final form. The completed work will be realised in stainless steel, chosen for its permanence, resilience, and the way it interacts with light.

This project reflects our approach to making: combining timeless craftsmanship with modern fabrication to create enduring, large-scale sculpture where every stage of the process is driven by precision, collaboration, and purpose.
